17 April 2008WG F meeting, CRUE update, Brussels 4 CRUE ERA-Net – Research Agenda Developing a European research agenda in flood risk management -key goal is providing the basis for effective management of flood risk and delivering sustainable development in Europe -should address the common vision and research needs of various European Member States and the EC in the field of Flood Risk Management in the next few years -will make an important contribution to strengthening the European Research Area (ERA) and support Member States in implementing the EU Floods Directive.

17 April 2008WG F meeting, CRUE update, Brussels 5 CRUE’s draft Research Agenda – details … CRUE has identified four major challenges which have to be tackled by FRM policy & research in the near future -Challenge 1 – A changing climate -Challenge 2 – Land use intensification and increased vulnerability -Challenge 3 – Traditional and uncoordinated protection strategies -Challenge 4 – Sustainable development, environmental protection and delivery multiple benefits

17 April 2008WG F meeting, CRUE update, Brussels 8 CRUE paper on research perspectives on implementation of the Floods Directive CRUE provided comments on how existing R&D could support MS in the outlined Floods Directive implementation tasks CRUE found that less research is needed to support the implementation of the FD tasks “Identify general hydrology” and “Designate significant flood risk zones” -CRUE found that urgent research needs are on -Evaluation of past floods -Flood plains as natural retention areas -Assessment of man made flood defence infrastructure -Long-term development scenarios of land use -Climate change related flood scenarios -Public participation -Developing Flood hazard maps -Developing Flood risk maps Available at /
