The Stourbridge Referee Welcome to The Stourbridge League You are the person who helps the games go ahead. You are the sole time keeper. You are the person in charge. Tonight we will go over a few things that you WILL KNOW and some you MAY NOT. Feel free to ask questions and share your experiences…good or bad. It’s good to talk

Your equipment

The Call We ask ALL our managers / secretaries to CALL YOU, NOT just TEXT, to first check that YOU are ok for the game allocated to you. Please check… Teams… Venue…(post code) Time… Age group… Kit colours… Take a telephone number to contact the manager in case of an emergency If there is a time clash please contact the ref secs. DO NOT turn down the games until you have spoken to us.

Venue and Times Managers are at present deciding to change the venue and kick off times without telling us This isn’t the correct way to do it. If your game has been changed please notify Helen or Lisa or Ian so we can ask the managers what’s going on and why is there changes. Sometimes changes are unavoidable.

Arrival At The Venue Please arrive at the venue about 30 minutes before the game. Introduce yourself to the management of both teams. Check… Pitch…..Nets… Corner Flags… Studs… Jewellery… etc. Check the TWO match balls Get ready to start the game

Correct Kit and Pitch Please make sure ALL jewellery is removed (inc yours) All scarves including snoods are removed Religious jewellery covered securely No bangles No grips either metal or plastic Dredd's, plats, Braids etc. MUST be tied back, long hair and fringes must be held back with a scrunchie / headband (cloth) or gel, for Boys and Girls. Ankle Guards are NOT to be worn outside the socks unless the same colour, they must be under the socks. All players CAN wear BLACK TIGHTS, Gloves and woolly hat (no peak)

Spectacles Players who wear glasses should be asked these questions (to ensure their safety) Can you see without them? Have you got sports goggles? Have you got flexi frames which surround the whole frame? No frame on glasses is a NO on the pitch

Times and Rules Before you leave for the game make sure you read up on the rules for the age group you are going to referee that day. Remember Mini Soccer… Times… 20 mins each way… don’t have to drop in number of players 9 aside … IS OFF SIDE RULE 11 aside … ALL roll on roll off subs Size of Ball… size 3 u7-u9… size 4 u10-u14… Size 5 upwards

A game consists of two equal periods. (both halves having the same duration) Playing time can be reduced to a minimum of 20 minutes each half up to Under 14s and 25 minutes each half for 15s to 18s.

Cup and Mini Soccer Games Please check in the RULE BOOK and on the website for length of play and extra time and penalty rules. DO NOT ask the managers the rules, this doesn’t make you look very professional. Mini Soccer Rules… Look in your rule book and on website, there will be a short meeting after to go through the few mini soccer rules for ALL mini soccer refs.

The Game Talk to both YOUR assistants at the same time … give them YOUR instructions … ensure both assistants understand what you want Tell Both teams what you expect of them (can be done at same time as stud check) Before you start… Check amount of players on the pitch before you blow your whistle. Flip a coin with Captain’s... decide ends
