Early Life James “Jimi” Marshall Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington on November 27, 1942 Jimi’s father had been drafted into the army and didn’t meet Jimi until he was three years old. Jimi grew up very poor. Jimi started showing a major interest in music, especially the blues, when he was about 13. He first started playing guitar when he was about 14 or 15.

Rise to Fame Jimi met Chas chandler. Chas was the bass player to the animals but quit his band and decided to become Jimi’s manager. Jimi flew to England He met drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding Jimi became very popular very quickly The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut album “Are You Experienced” which went to number two on the British charts

Back to America Jimi was headed back to America in 1967 to play at the Monterey International Pop Festival Jimi became very famous after the festival and soon he started touring all over the U.S. Eventually he became so famous that in 1969 he was the headliner for the Woodstock Festival which had approximately 300,000 festival attendees.
