Edward Hopper was born July 22, 1882 in Nyack, New York. He had 1 sister named Marion. Edward learned mostly from Robert Henri but, also from William Merritt Chase in New York City. Edward was influenced by Rembrandt, Manet, and Degas. Also, Edward was influenced by the writer Ralph Waldo Emerson. Later in 1924 Edward got married to Josephine Verstille Nivison. Edward’s art work was in the Armory Show in New York. Edward painted on canvas. He painted a lot of different things for example, landmarks like motel rooms, filling stations, bars, and offices. He also painted landscape and cityscapes. Edward combined loneliness and sadness in his art work. His style was Modern Realism. He used flat masses of color and large geometric forms. He used architectural elements in his scenes for their strong vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. He used various kinds of colors in his different art work. Edward said - “Light is an important expressive for me, but not too consciously.” Edward sadly died in his Washington Square Studio in New York on May 15, Back to the Museum

My artist Edward Hopper painted this painting called Railroad Sunset. I like it because of the colors. I feel like I am standing right in front of a beautiful sunset. I also really like how he made it look three- dimensional railroad station. Back to the Museum
