2. Where he was born Philip Johnson was born on July 8, 1906 in Cleveland Ohio. When he graduated high school he then went to Harvard Collage and majored in classics.

3. How it all started In 1931 he began his career as an architectural critic and historian, Later on that year he became director of the architectural department at the newly formed Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1940 he returned to Harvard Graduate School of Design and studied under Marcel Breuer. After he graduated he began designing house and public building.

4. Designed His Own House In 1949 he designed and built his own home in New Canaan, Connecticut witch was made out of glass. His other homes of this period which have a similar quality are the Hogson House which was built in 1951 and the Wiley House which was built in 1953, and both houses are also in New Caanan.
