Presentation transcript:

* Thermal & Motion Energy

* How does adding thermal energy affect the live wire?

1. Get a cup of very hot water 2. Bend and twist the live wire (no knots) 3. Carefully place live wire into water 4. Observe Reaction

* Thermal Energy of hot water leads to the motion of the live wire

Set up the lab by preparing the water and live wire Observed how thermal and motion energy are related

* Live wire is a nitinol * Thermal energy in water made the wire return to the original shape

* Used in green houses. When it gets too hot, live wire straightens and opens the door to let the air in. * When objects get hot(Thermal energy), their particles expand(Motion energy)
