The Planets of Solar System By Matthew and Richard

What is a Solar System? A solar system is the sun and the group of planets and bodies that orbit it. All the planets that rotate around the sun are in a Solar System. Some planets of the Solar System are gas planet and solid.

The Sun The sun is a body of hot gases that make its own heat. The temperature is 27,000,000 F. It is a medium sized star. More than 100 earths can go around the sun.

Inner Planets All the inner planets are small, ball shaped, rocky and solid. Inner planets have craters. They consist of the first four planets in the Solar System.

Mercury Mercury is a very hot planet because it is nearest to the sun, but it’s not the hottest planet. One day is long as a year. It has no atmosphere.

Venus Venus is the hottest planet because of a thick carbon dioxide atmosphere. Surrounded by layers of clouds made of sulfuric acid. Venus is hot and wind. Venus has yellow clouds, which act like a blanket holding in the sun’s heat.

Earth The only planet that has liquid water oxygen to support life. It has protective blanket of air called atmosphere.

Mars Mars is covered in red rock made of iron oxide. Mars has polar ice caps. Mars has a thin atmosphere and lots of craters. Mars might have water underground.

Asteroid Belt Some pieces from the asteroid belt are dislodged and enter Earth’s atmosphere where they burn up and are called meteorites.

Outer Planets The fourth planet from the sun is called an outer planet. All outer planets are gas planets. All gas planets have rings.

Jupiter Jupiter is the biggest planet in the solar system. It’s a gas planet and wind moves gases. Jupiter has a big red spot that been there for 300 years.

Saturn The rings are made out ice, dust, and rock. Saturn has 61 moons. Saturn is a gas planet. Saturn is one of the outer planets.

Uranus Uranus is rotates on it side. The gas is made out of methane. Uranus has 27 moons. Uranus is the third biggest planet.

Neptune Neptune has a dark spot. Neptune has clouds of white. Neptune is a blue – green planet with giant storms.
