 Spring/Summer 2009 Development of Assessment Classroom Trials  District-wide Field-testing & Training Cut Scores established for four Performance Levels: Beginning, Progressing, Proficient and Advanced  District-wide Training and Implementation Scores entered in Assessment Entry System 3

The K-2 Reading Assessment evaluates key skills in the areas of phonics, word analysis, and vocabulary for students in grades K, 1, and 2, with a focus on specific reading processing skills:  Letter knowledge  Early literacy concepts  High-frequency words  Phonological awareness  Letter-sound relationships  Word structure 4 Most of the K,1,2 skills assessments are administered to students individually to assure accuracy of results.

 Students are tested beginning and end of year  Assessments are scored by teachers using cut scores established for the performance levels: Beginning, Progressing, Proficient, and Advanced  Raw scores are entered Assessment Entry System (AES) and performance levels are calculated 5

6 Data are reported as Success Rates at each grade level and/or skill. Success Rate describes the percentage of students who mastered, at the proficient or advanced levels, the set of skills for a test. The district goal for individual student mastery is 80%.
