Assessment of research in UK higher education institutions operated by HEFCE on behalf of national funding councils Provides benchmark UK research, informs distribution of QR funding for research (QR funding – Leeds ~ £48million) Submissions from HEIs in 36 Units of Assessment (subject areas), grouped under 4 main panels. Assessment period 1 Jan 2008 – 31 July 2013 (31 Dec 2013 for outputs) Submissions comprise Outputs, Impact and Environment Institutions choose who and what to submit Assessment panels comprising academic and “user” members (ie expert review).
