Associate Educational Supervisor Project Mr R Subramaniam Dr S Mukherjee Mr A Simoes

Associate Educational Supervisor Clinical supervisor (CS) is responsible for overseeing a trainee’s clinical work during a placement & supervises the exercise of specific competencies and skills appropriate to that particular placement. Educational supervisor (ES) is responsible for the overall supervision and management of a trainee’s trajectory of learning and educational progress during a placement and/or series of placements.

Associate Educational Supervisor All doctors have a professional obligation to contribute to the education and training of other doctors, medical students and non- medical healthcare professionals on the team … and those who accept special responsibilities for teaching should take steps to ensure that they develop and maintain the skills’ GMC 1999, The doctor as teacher.

Associate Educational Supervisor The Project: The Local Faculty Group (LFG) selected 3 SAS doctors interested in medical education through their appraisal. The Local Academic Board (LAB) supported and recommended the Qualified Educational Supervisors Programme (QESP).

Associate Educational Supervisor Aim: To equip the doctors with the knowledge, skills and attitudes of being an ES, thereby being able to function as an independent accredited ES.

Associate Educational Supervisor 3 SAS Doctors: General Surgery, Paediatrics and Care of the Elderly. 3 Educational Supervisors: Supportive Supervisory Coaches

Associate Educational Supervisor QESP: The Qualified Educational Supervisor Programme is the KSS Deanery academic training programme delivered to meet the GMC statutory requirement that all doctors involved in teaching and supervising are trained and accredited.

Associate Educational Supervisor Part I - Certificate in Teaching Half-day Workshop: Principles of teaching and learning and develops the participant’s ability to support learning in clinical settings Observation of Teaching by Education Adviser Professional Conversation Reflective Writing

Associate Educational Supervisor Part II - Certificate in Educational Supervision Whole-day workshop: Principles and practice of assessment, supervision, careers advice and supporting trainees in difficulty. Observation of supervision by Education Adviser Professional Conversation Reflective Writing. Voluntary reciprocated peer observations

Associate Educational Supervisor QESP is the KSS Deanery academic training programme delivered to meet the GMC statutory requirement that all doctors involved in teaching and supervising are trained and accredited. Educational Governance is defined as organisational systems and standards put in place to control the educational activities and to demonstrate accountability for the continuous improvement of quality and performance.

GMC, August Named ES and named CS may be GPs, consultants or staff, associate specialist or specialty doctors (SAS) doctors. Recognition and approval will underline their essential contribution and contribute to the fair and equitable recognition of training responsibilities.
