5 Role of the Educational Supervisor..is a trainer who is selected and appropriately trained to be responsible for the overall supervision and management of a specified trainee’s educational process during a training placement or series of placements. The educational supervisor is responsible for the trainee’s educational agreement...is selected and appropriately trained to be responsible for overseeing a specified trainee’s clinical work and providing constructive feedback during a training placement. May be most likely to spot the early warning signs, and best placed to offer support Role of the Clinical Supervisor

7 Poor demonstration of competencies (WBPAs) Not engaging in the learning process – meetings / eportfolio Staff and/or patient complaints (360 degree assessments) Struggles to prioritise Avoids Feedback Adapted from Helping a Trainee in Difficulty. Signs of non progression- Insight

8 Exploring concerns and agreeing a plan Initially set up a meeting with your Educational Supervisor and document how you feel and what could be affecting it. Agree a plan to improve the areas your struggling The action plan should follow SMART principles and be documented, recorded and shared with TPD and HoS if necessary. Set a review date/venue to meet

9 Process @NHS_HealthEdEng #insertcampaignhashtag 1 Receive referral from Educator (no self referral) Identify reason for referral 2 Ask can we help, is it a training issue If yes meet with trainee If no signpost accordingly 3 Referral to agreed provider Sharing of information with training programme Reports provided for ARCP panels on request

10 We’ve Changed Professional Support Unit -1 st April Demand lead preventative workshops and training New polices and Procedures with effect from 1 st January 2016 and more to come –For example we no longer accept self referrals and support offered must be accessed within 2 working days, cases will be closed if support is not accessed. @NHS_HealthEdEng #insertcampaignhashtag

13 Occupational Health Assessments Trust Occupational Health: Provides opinion about fitness to work May provide recommendations for changes to working patterns HEE Occupational Health: Provides opinion about fitness to work Provides opinion about fitness to train and be assessed May provide recommendations for changes to working patterns May provide recommendations for further support May recommend reasonable adjustments to workplace, training etc.

14 PSU are unable to accept referrals where a trainee is under Trust or Police investigation. PSU will consider referrals for trainees under GMC investigation on a case by case basis but please get in touch if you are unsure. In these circumstances trainers are advised to refer to the external resource list (on the website)
