A verb is a word used to express action or state of being.

Verbs can be classified as: 1). Helping verbs 2). Action or linking verbs 3). Transitive or intransitive verbs

A helping verb helps the main verb express action or state of being. Together, a main verb and a helping verb make up a verb phrase.

Examples: 1. We will leave for New York on Sunday. will leave is the verb phrase will is the helping verb leave is the main verb 2. Miss X has been teaching here since has been teaching – verb phrase has been – helping verb teaching – main verb
