Step 1 Choose an assignment Form Audience Step 2 Select FCAs Select up to 3, in 3 categories (Focus, Content, Organization, Style, Conventions) Choose value for each FCA Step 3 Plan Process and Materials Number of lessons needed to teach the FCAs Mini Lessons

Sample Mini Lesson-Using Dialogue Ask: How do know who is speaking when you read a sentence? Type 1 Writing: What is dialogue? (2 lines, 2min 13 sec). Rewrite the sentence using correct punctuation for dialogue: He said I love you. Share responses. Complete practice examples that students will keep as anchors for their writing.

Sample Mini Lesson-Adding Descriptive Details Ask: How can I make a boring sentence more interesting? Type 1 Writing: What are descriptive details? (2 lines, 2 min 13 sec). Rewrite the sentence using details: She walked to school. Share responses. Complete practice examples that students will keep as anchors for their writing.

Collins Type 3: Practice Part 2: Student Student writes the FCAs on their paper. Student reads his/her draft from beginning to end without stopping to fix anything. Student rereads and he/she evaluates his/her writing based on the following questions: Did I complete the assignment? Does the composition sound right? (Does it make sense?) Is it easy to read? Do I have problems with the FCAs?
