Spring,2016 Welcome to CSE101 Presentation

Introduction: Presented by: Sumiaya Huq Dipty Munira Tanzim Prithila Rahman Ahmed Fawaz Presented To: Dr. MD. Hakikur Rahman Lecturer BRAC University

Overview: Classification of computers:  Supercomputers  Mainframe computers  Workstations  Mini computers  Microcomputers, or Personal Computers

Supercomputer: Supercomputers are the heavyweights in the computing world. Supercomputers introduced in the 1960s. Designed primarily by Seymour Cray at Control Data Corporation (CDC). Supercomputers are typically one-of-a-kind custom designs produced by "traditional" companies such as IBM and HP. These systems perform heavy calculations using hardware and software that is on the cutting edge of technology. These systems often require special liquid or gas cooling to keep them running.

Supercomputer: This is a kind of Supercomputer Roadrunner is the fastest supercomputer

Use of Supercomputer:  highly complex calculation  intensive tasks such as problems involving quantum mechanical physics,  weather forecasting, climate research (including research into global warming),  molecular modeling (computing the structures and properties of chemical compounds, biological macromolecules, polymers, and crystals),  physical simulations (such as simulation of airplanes in wind tunnels,  simulation of the detonation of nuclear weapons, and research into nuclear fusion,  cryptanalysis, and the like. Major universities, military agencies.  scientific research laboratories are heavy users.

Mainframe Computer:  First introduced in 1965  Mainly used by large organizations  Can support hundreds and thousands of users  It can run multiple operating systems

Mini Computer: Developed in mid 1960s Lie between smallest mainframe computer and largest single user systems minicomputers were 16-bit. contemporary term for minicomputer is midrange computer

Uses Of Mini Computer: Can run program in higher level language such as Fortran or basic Control instrumentation human interaction communication switching as distinct from calculation record keeping.

Workstations: Designed for technical and scientific applications Workstations offered higher performance than mainstream personal computers optimized for the visualization and manipulation of different types of complex data such as 3D mechanical design, engineering simulation (e.g. computational fluid dynamics) animation and rendering of images, and mathematical plots Use as network and internet server.

Microsoft computer / Personal Computer: The term "PC" has been traditionally used to describe an "IBM-compatible" personal computer in contradistinction to an Apple Macintosh computer. Classification of personal computer: Desktop computers In-car computers (carputers) Game consoles

Microsoft computer / Personal Computer: Smaller microcomputers are also called mobile devices: Laptops and notebook computers Tablet computer Programmable calculator Handheld game consoles

Some kinds of Microsoft computer / Personal Computer:
