SJC Green Committee Environmentally Preferable Purchasing Green Committee Purpose : Develop and serve as a strong resource team Review policy and encourage sustainable behavior and practices Provide reliable product information and resources Encourage and recognize innovative and sustainable practices 2

SJC Green Committee Purchasing & Support Services Led the County Green Committee Organized green product presentations Invited speakers on sustainability Hosted a supply trade show/symposium Modified internal purchasing systems 4

SJC Green Committee Environmental Benefits  Reduced carbon footprint  Purchased over $1 million worth of environmentally preferable products or avoided unnecessary purchases  Savings in the $100’s of thousands 5

SJC Green Committee Departmental Highlights $32,395 in second year energy cost savings for two solar projects Ag Center County Admin. Bldg. 6

SJC Green Committee Savings by continued conversion to electronic radiologic diagnostics vs. radiologic film (plus old film is recycled appropriately and metals recovered) 7

SJC Green Committee 99.8% of office supply orders are placed online, exceeding industry norms 8

SJC Green Committee Some other highlights: At least 98,180 pounds of metal was locally recycled and 47,071 pounds of e-waste was locally recycled Public Works (PW) Fleet Services Division achieved $725,000 in fleet improvements/ reductions Green Team San Joaquin and the Public Works Solid Waste Division received the “Outstanding Closing the Loop Award” ,000 pounds (302 tons) of shredded paper was locally recycled
