JUSTIFICATIONFOR IMPLEMENTING JUSTIFICATION FOR IMPLEMENTING Potential energy cost savings of $1M annually – Program Burn Hours (delay on/early off) – Dimmable (requires dimmable driver) Potential energy savings of 160MWh annually Less truck rollouts – Crews have materials to make repairs in one trip. – More efficiently schedule repairs. Event lighting – Enhance select areas during special events. Record of historical data – Track maintenance, energy usage, etc. Asset Management

HOW IT WORKS Nodes - Installed on individual streetlights (in place of photo controls). Gateways - Communicates with a group of streetlight nodes. Network Operation Center (NOC) - Processes data to and from gateways. Hosted by Acuity. Customer Portal – Web-based access of data and controls.

Equipment Node – Installed in place of photo cell, NEMA receptacle. – Started with 3-pin node. Now have 7-pin node, which enables dimming. – 1000ft range (max distance between streetlight nodes). – Has bar code to activate and scan in GPS location. – Voltage Range of V – Power demand = 2.2 Watts

Scan Tool – Activates and sets GPS location of node, date installed, light type, etc. Handheld PDA GPS Antenna (Bluetooth Enabled) Equipment

Gateway (Ethernet or Cellular) – Installs on pole. – Controls up to 2,000 nodes (lights). – 120V, power demand = 12 Watts – Cellular require an annual data plan. Equipment

Installation Initial installation - Contracted installation and activation of ROAM nodes to all 70,000 existing lights. AE installed 32 gateways at locations identified by Acuity. AE now installs and maintains all equipment (nodes, gateways).

Lessons Learned Ethernet gateways, tied to substations, are not always in the best location to communicate. Cellular gateways are more flexible to get them where needed. Some TV and radio frequencies can interfere with communications. Nodes require scan to set the GPS location. Make sure crews re-scan when replace nodes. – New nodes available with internal GPS. However, they range about $200 per node, versus about $50 per standard node. Web-based portal does not show real-time data. – Diagnostics are run (by Acuity) every 24hrs and updated to customer portal at 7am. Dimmable lights require Dimmable Control Module.

Monitoring Requirements Must monitor light every 24 hours and file a report to the FAA after finding failure 15 days allowed to repair structure, must notify FAA if unable to repair in time window No Failure report required if lights are voluntary “Structures 150 feet (46 m) AGL or less should have one or more double steady-burning lights installed at the highest point and operating simultaneously” 17
