Presentation transcript:

Who are we? What is our aim? We are five members of the EIS Road Safety Team. Aoi, Laraib, Odeta, Taeeun and Una. We are trying to improve road safety around our school- in the Novogireevo district. As we started to work on our project, we realized how many people get injured or die every year becuse of road accidents. The numbers were higher than we expected- we wanted to work on this project and really make a difference, at least in our school’s area to make sure that we could be safe on the roads around our school. Did you know that about 30,000 people die in road accidents in Russia alone? By working on this project we thought we could make local people aware of the statistics and persuade them to drive more carefully, escpecially around schools.

Facts about road accidents o More than 1.2 million people die in road traffic crashes every year. o As many as 50 million people are injured or disabled by road traffic crashes every year. o Half of all crash victims are vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. o Correctly used seat-belts reduce the risk of death in a crash by 61%

What have we done? As you saw, the statistics are very high. We made questionnaires and gave them out to people living in the Novogireevo district. We asked 13 people in total. The quesionnaires were made in both English and Russian languages. We then made statistics from the questionnaires. We also made leaflets, which tell people about importance of seat belts, and information about road accidents. The leaflets try to persuade people to wear seat belts and make people aware of how many deaths and injuries have there been in road accidents. We translated the leaflets in Russian to give it to people who do not speak english. We also created Facebook account for the road safety project.

Conclusion The traffic accidents happen numerous times every day all over the world and a huge number of people die due to certain actions which they think are not important. Small and simple actions may control your life and other people’s lives. Not wearing a seat belt can cost your or another person’s life. Hopefully, we have made a difference- we hope that people living in the Novogireevo district will think about their actions, wear a seat belt and will not drive past the speed limit. Driving past the speed limit in a school’s area can be very dangerous and we hope to see a difference.
