Why were Europeans interested in Newfoundland? Why did Cartier get sent across the Atlantic? Why is Samuel de Champlain an important man in Canadian history?

Find an image that represents the fur trade in Canada. Which two European countries were mainly involved in the Fur trade? Why was fur so popular? Why people come to Canada? How did First Nations people help the fur traders? Why did they do this? Where were the furs exchanged? What did these places become?

Find an image of early French settlers in New France. Why did the King of France want to encourage people to settle in New France? Who were the Filles de Roi? Who were the habitants? Describe their lifestyle.

Describe what happened in 1763.
