Presentation transcript:

P-25 Digital Communication System History: October 2007 explored changing from analog to P-25 digital system. At that time the P-25 standards had not been defined. Realized a cost savings with radio system upgrade instead of system replacement. Recommendation was based on the radio system age, reliability.

2 P-25 Digital Communications System Purpose: P-25 digital technology is the standard for Public Safety communications To replace the aging analog system and infrastructure that will be obsolete and unsupported by the manufacturer in 2017 Will provide for interoperability between agencies and Counties

P-25 Digital Communications System Need: Replacement must begin in 2016 due to loss of support of existing radio system. Surrounding Counties are moving to P-25 and we will lose interoperability Obsolete analog mobile radios are no longer supported and limited maintenance available 3

P-25 Digital Communications System Benefits: Open Standard / Non-proprietary P25 digital technology. (County currently operates on a proprietary system) Several available vendor options Radio system coverage increase Bring Charlotte County up to the standard for Public Safety Communication 4

P-25 Digital Communications System Project Costs: Highest estimated cost to replace the radio system is $7.9 million. Highest estimated cost to replace radios and software is $2.1 million M & O costs will increase, depending on selected vendor. (Currently $150,000) 5
