How have attitudes changed? Why have attitudes changed? Voting Politics (becoming an MP) Education Work Equal Pay Suffragette’s Movement Women worked during the World Wars Availability of the contraceptive pill 1960’s Liberation Movement: Abortion, Equal Pay

Some Christians accept that men and women should have equal rights and allow women to be ministers/vicars because… Other Christians believe that men and women have separate roles and so do not have the same rights in religion because… St.Paul taught that everyone is equal in Christ (male, female, black, white etc) In the Bible it says that God made everyone to be like him (this includes females) Jesus treated women in the same way as men and had female friends There is evidence that there were female priests in the early stages of Christianity Adam was the first human created by God and he was male. The first woman, Eve, led Adam astray (The Fall) Jesus only chose men to be his disciples Catholic Christians believe only men can be priests because Jesus was a man and the priest is meant to represent Jesus on Earth

Traditionally, Muslims believe that men and women have different roles and rights in life and religion because… A modern Muslim view is that men and women have totally equal roles in education and religion because…

FOR women having the same roles as men AGAINST women having the same roles as men The Qur’an teaches that men and women both have an equal chance of going to paradise The Prophet Muhammad encouraged both men and women to worship in the mosque During the early stages of Islam, women were religious leaders Muslims believe God create both men and women so both should be treated with respect The Qur’an teaches that men should support women because God gave men a stronger physique The Qur’an teaches that women should only inherit half of what a man inherits showing that men need more money than women to be family providers It is traditional that only men attend the mosque and that Imams are all men In some Muslim countries, men are allowed more than one wife, where as women are not allowed more than one husband. (Prophet Muhammad had several wives)

How does the UK government promote racial harmony? Why should Christians help to promote racial harmony? Why should Muslims help to promote racial harmony? Racial harmony: different ethnic groups living together peacefully Jesus told the story of The Good Samaritan. The message= love your neighbour (everyone) St. Paul taught that “everyone is equal in Christ” Jesus mixed with all races. A black man helped him carry his cross Christians are made up of many different ethnic groups The Qur’an teaches Muslims they were all created from Adam and Eve= all related Prophet Muhammad in his last sermon taught Muslims that every Muslim is a brother to every other Muslim Prophet Muhammad chose a black African to be his first prayer caller Muslims believe in the UMMAH: that they are all brothers regardless of race Citizenship Test (75%) National Curriculum OFSTED Encourages EM’s to become MPs Tougher sentences for people who commit race hate crimes
