Using Assessment to Achieve Shalom PLANNING AND IMPROVEMENT

Workshop Learning Outcomes  Participants will strategize when and how they will use assessment results for planning

Hope-filled, Shalom-focused, Love-infused  Hope-filled: The use of results centers on the reality that we are part of God’s inaugurated, yet not fully realized Kingdom and how that impacts your programs, students, and faculty.  Shalom-Focused: Use your results guide your decisions to move closer to Shalom within your program.  Love-infused: I want you, your faculty, and your students to reach your yet unrealized possibilities.

Words from our SACSCOC Report “While many departments demonstrate a pattern of assessment, there is not sufficient evidence of improvement based on analysis of results.”

Proper use of assessment results  Assess teaching and learning processes as well as outcomes, because they help up understand the outcomes.  Actively involve those with a stake in decisions stemming from the results.  Don’t let assessment results dictate decisions. They should advise you as you use professional judgment to make suitable decisions.  Use multiple sources of information when making decisions  Outside Trends and Research  Keep stakeholders informed on how assessment findings support major decisions  Don’t hold people accountable for things they cannot do

What to do with results 1. Consider your learning goals  Do we have too many goals?  Are our goals appropriate?  Should we clarify or refine our goals? 2. Consider your curriculum  Including the mapping of the curriculum 3. Consider Your Teaching Methods 4. Consider Your Assessment Strategies and Tools

How do changes and modifications work at LETU  “Smaller Changes” can be done internally in the department  Changes Learning Outcomes  Changes focus in courses to target areas of concerns  Changing when and how the assessment of student learning outcomes occurs  Revising rubrics and other measurement tools  “Larger Changes” may require “Stage-Gate” or other processes  Hiring new faculty  Developing new programs or new delivery methods  New Marketing

Where does the assessment data go?  Program IE Reports will be reviewed by Assessment and Continuous Improvement Committee  Program IE Reports inform the School-level Strategic plan.  The School-level Strategic Plan connects to the LETU strategic Plan  These Plans inform resource allocation selected by Strategy Council.
