The Strategy - Working Family Success Network An integrated services approach to help community-based organizations and community colleges rethink how they serve working families through the bundling and sequencing of complementary services and supports in the three key areas:  Financial Literacy  Benefit Access for College Completion  Education & Workforce Development

Porterville College Outcomes  Outcomes  Increase academic persistence rates (bundling services)  Increase likelihood of achieving an academic degree or certificate when bundling services  External partners are actively supporting WFSNCC implementation and expansion activities at the college  Increased participation in monthly college and career financial literacy, workforce development, and career readiness courses  Increased campus awareness among students, faculty, staff and administrators about WFSNCC services Research reveals that receiving integrated services are three to four times more likely to achieve a major economic outcome.

Spring 2016 Activities  Service 1: Cash Course - Year 2 scale up  Service 2: Career Choices Course – Dual Enrollment w/High Schools  Service 3: Book Voucher – Partnership with Barnes & Noble  Service 4: Workforce Development – Career Fair  Service 5: Benefit Access Workshops - Direct support and direct engagement via Tax Preparation Assistance and CDC Parent Workshops  Service 6: JEC Workshops - Expand services to target English as a Second Language (ESL) population

HOW YOU CAN HELP STUDENTS?  Early Alert Referrals  Patty Serrato, Counselor  Encourage students to attend workshops  JEC Workshops  EOPS Workshops  On-Campus Community Partner Workshops  Offer extra credit for attending workshops  if possible & applicable  Similar to CHAP events

HOW YOU CAN HELP STUDENTS?  Embed Cash Course/Financial Literacy into your assignments  You can assign worksheets, coursework, and quizzes to your students and track and download their progress and scores ( Contact: Matt Bentley –Educational Advisor x  Classroom Presentations – “Don’t Cancel That Class”  Need to be away from class one day for a conference or meeting… “Don’t Cancel That Class”. Student Services/JEC will come to your class and present programs designed to educate students on the student services, wellness topics, and soft- skill training in the context of your course.  Please send request at least 3 days to two weeks in advance. Requests less than 3 days will be considered if schedule allows.
