FONT EXAMPLES Computer Applications

Serif Fonts Serif fonts have small marks called “serifs” on the tops and bottoms of letters. They may be decorative or functional. Serif fonts are used in textbooks, reports, newspapers, and in other documents involving large amounts of text. Serif fonts can be read easier and faster because the serifs allow the eyes to track better, especially when returning to the next line. M

Sans Serif Fonts Sans means without, so Sans Serif fonts are without serifs. They are simple and uncluttered. They are used for large sized print and where small amounts of print are used. M

Script Fonts Script fonts resemble cursive handwriting. The letters often appear to be connected. They give a document a formal or personal appearance. They can be difficult to read, especially if there is a large amount of text. Fonts can be created based on your handwriting. M

Novelty Fonts Novelty fonts are very artistic and include symbols as well as letters. They are used for visual effect. They are used for headlines and small amounts of text. They are often difficult to read. M
