3 Serif Characters that are vary in thickness and have a stroke that projects from the top or bottom of the main stroke of the character. Note: studies show that serif fonts provide visual clues to direct the reader’s eye from one character to the next, making serif fonts easier to read.

4 Sans Serif Characters that are uniform in thickness and do not have serifs.

5 Script Characters that look like handwriting, hand lettering or calligraphy

6 Decorative Characters that are ornamental

7 GUIDELINES Do not use more than two fonts in a layout! Serifs for large body copy Sans serif to convey messages Script fonts for festive moods Decorative used only for a few words
