Denominator the part of a fraction that is below the line and that functions as the divisor of the numerator.

Greatest Common Factor the greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers.

Least Common Multiple: the least of the common multiples of the denominators of two or more fractions.

Mean The sum of the data divided by the number of items in the data set.

Probability The chance that some event will happen. It is the ratio of the number of ways a certain event can occur to the number of possible outcomes.

Degrees The most common unit of measure for angles. If a circle were divided into 360 equal-sized parts, each part would have an angle measure of 1 degree

Angle Two rays with a common endpoint from an angle. The rays and vertex are used to name the angle.

Pi The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. An approximation often used for pi is 3.14

Algebraic Expression A combination of variables, numbers, and at least one operation.

Factors Two or more numbers that are multiplied together to form a product.

Exponent In a power, the number that tells how many times the base is used as a factor. In 5 3, the exponent is 3. That is, 5 3 =5x5x5

Square The product of a number and itself. 36 is the square of 6.

Variable A placeholder, usually a letter, used to represent an unspecified value in mathematical expressions or sentences.

Coordinate Plane A plane in which a horizontal number line and a vertical number line intersect at their zero points. Also called a coordinate grid.
