Why was JFK in Dallas? CAMPAIGNING FOR 1964 ELECTION What happened?  SHOT TWICE, HEAD AND NECK, BY SNIPER WHILE RIDING THROUGH DOWNTOWN DALLAS IN OPEN LIMOSINE

Who did it? LEE HARVEY OSWALD Why?  HE WAS A COMMUNIST  HE HAD DEFECTED TO THE SOVIET UNION  HE SEEMED A BIT “OFF”

 MANY HAVE ARGUED THAT ONE SNIPER COULD NOT POSSIBLY HAVE FIRED 4 SHOTS (JFK’S HEAD, NECK, TEXAS GOVERNOR CONNELLY, AND A MISS)  HEAD WOUND SEEMED TO COME FROM FRONT (VIDEO SHOWS HEAD JERKING BACK)  SOME WITNESSES SAW POSSIBLE GUNMAN ON GRASSY KNOLL

“Magic Bullet” Theory: ONE BULLET PASSED THROUGH JFK’S NECK & INTO CONNELLY, SO ONLY 2 SHOTS NEEDED (THREE INCLUDING THE MISS), WHICH WAS POSSIBLE

What happened to Oswald? SHOT & KILLED BY JACK RUBY Who was Jack Ruby? NIGHTCLUB OWNER WHO WAS TERMINALLY ILL; NEVER REVEALED REASONS FOR KILLING OSWALD; MANY ARGUED IT WAS EVIDENCE OF A CONSPIRACY

 Communists -Fidel Castro: REVENGE FOR ATTEMPTS ON HIS LIFE (BAY OF PIGS) -Soviets: COLD WAR  Cuban Refugees: ANGRY ABOUT FAILURE OF BAY OF PIGS  Mafia: JFK’S BROTHER (ROBERT KENNEDY) HAD BEEN FIGHTING MAFIA

 CIA: JFK HAD BEEN THINKING ABOUT MAKING BIG CHANGES AFTER SEVERAL CIA FAILURES (BAY OF PIGS)  U.S. Government: JFK HAD RESISTED GETTING MORE INVOLVED IN VIETNAM— SOME IN GOVERNMENT WANTED MORE INVOLVEMENT & V.P. JOHNSON WOULD GIVE IT TO THEM  Lyndon Johnson: WANTED TO BE PRESIDENT

 Warren Commission: FIRST GOVERNMENT GROUP ASSIGNED TO INVESTIGATE ASSASSINATION -Two important findings 1.) OSWALD WAS THE SHOOTER 2.) NO EVIDENCE OF A FURTHER CONSPIRACY

 1976 House Commission: AMERICAN PUBLIC DID NOT ACCEPT FINDINGS OF WARREN COMMISION, SO A NEW COMMISSION WAS FINALLY ESTABLISHED TO RE-INVESTIGATE -Two important findings 1.) OSWALD WAS SHOOTER 2.) MAY HAVE BEEN OTHERS INVOLVED BUT NO IDEA WHO Vice President Lyndon Johnson became president

 What was the name of the government group that investigated the JFK Assassination?  Who did they say shot JFK?  Who killed the alleged assassin?  What did the government group that investigated the assassination determine that few in the public believed?  What was the “Magic Bullet” Theory  What was the place JFK was shot at called?
