Lutheran Youth of Queensland Lutheran Youth of Queensland was proud to announce that our church now impacts over 10,000 young lives every year through Lutheran Youth of Queensland’s ministries. That influence should continue to grow in 2012/2013 with the addition of two new CLW camps, a new monthly young adult event (The Upper Room), strong leadership training growth and the biggest 12 months in Luther Heights history!

Lutheran Youth of Queensland

Lutheran Youth of Queensland used their presentation to highlight to delegates the challenges that Queensland children and families are facing today – family breakdown, abuse, neglect etc. Delegates were encouraged to make their congregation aware of the issues that are likely affecting families and children that they know and to consider how the congregation can support the families in their area. Lutheran Youth of Queensland

Lutheran schools and services continue to grow. LORDS and Little Wonders kindergarten at LORDS, opened at the start of the year and St Peters Springfield moved into new buildings on a new site schools and services are blessed with support from state and federal governments and we also thank the many parents and grandparents who sacrifice much to ensure their children can attend our schools and services Lutheran Education Queensland

Faith Lutheran College at Plainland received the TT Reuther Award for school excellence for They are a college that has grown fast and serve the Lockyer Valley communities with care and great education. Ian Hauser (Grace college) and Cameron Roach (Immanuel) received the Rolph Mayer Award for teacher excellence. Lutheran education is thankful for the bequests received that help for example, pay school fees for students in need. It is wonderful that two bequests were from people who knew and respected and in one case attended a Lutheran school, but were not Lutherans! Lutheran Education Queensland

Lutheran schools need Lutheran staff. Please encourage people working in other systems to consider service in our schools and services. Please continue to pray for your schools and services as they serve their Queensland communities through providing excellent Christian education and pastoral care. Lutheran Education Queensland

Lutheran Community Care Serves vulnerable members of the Queensland community. Nine residential aged care (nursing home and hostel) services assisting more than 900 residents Approximately 320 retirement village units in nine villages; seven villages are co-located with residential services, and two are stand-alone villages Our refuge (Mary and Martha’s) which assists hundreds of women and children escaping domestic violence each year

Lutheran Community Care Two services for young people and three services for people with a disability – we help them to find work or resume education, to improve their independence, to restore relationships with family and friends, or to find a secure place to live. We support hundreds of people in hospital annually through our hospital chaplaincy program.

Lutheran Community Care We are working with St Paul’s congregation at Nundah to create a rejuvenated Lutheran precinct with the church as the centre of a multi-age community – including Zion aged care service We have begun detailed planning for the re- development our aged care service at Laidley (Tabeel) in close collaboration with the Laidley community

Lutheran Community Care Our mental health service at Nambour (Graceville) is about to open purpose-built accommodation for ten people; this is the latest component of a major expansion of the service’s capaacity Mary and Martha’s refuge has recently occupied its new premises which provide more privacy and a more home-like environment for the women and children escaping domestic violence

Lutheran Community Care The Incept youth service at Caboolture has expanded its activities and has increased the emphasis on programs to prevent homelessness and disengagement from schooling Our planning is well advanced to respond positively to the reforms to aged care and the disability sector, announced recently by the Commonwealth government

LLL - Lutheran Laypeople’s League God has wonderfully blessed the LLL in finance with a mission. Finance benefits the LCA through loans, and through grants from the LLL Permanent Funds. The Lutheran Tract Mission is an outreach ministry of the LLL. Thank you to all who have LLL Savings Accounts, and to all who have made donations or left legacies to the LLL.

The Board for Mission. God continues to richly bless the work of overseas mission, particularly in South East Asia. In particular the LCA is supporting the work of Lutheran Church Singapore in its outreach into Cambodia. With the establishment of Lutheran World Mission in Cambodia, a new congregation has been established in a village three hours drive north of Phnom Penh, with over 80 baptised members.

The Board for Mission. A hostel ministry has also been established in Phnom Penh, offering heavily subsidised accommodation to students attending University from remote villages. Over 50 students are housed here, and a new ministry has begun with a live in chaplain offering bible study and sunday worship to this student body. To date there have been 11 baptisms from the student body.

The Board for Mission. Many members and congregations of the LCA have been involved in mission in Cambodia. Lutheran churches from all around the world are also working in Cambodia. The LCA is now involved in working with all Lutheran Churches to work towards one unified Lutheran ministry in Cambodia to avoid unnecessary duplication and work towards a more effective ministry in the long term.

Board for Lay Ministry The Board’s vision is that all congregations and organisations of the LCA will have access to appropriately skilled lay workers to be involved in their ministries, and to equip and empower ministry partners as they build faith within their communities. As the Spirit works through these ministries, more people will experience Jesus’ love for them, and commit to follow Him.

Board for Lay Ministry A lay worker is a lay person who has been installed into a defined ministry position by a congregation or agency of the LCA. The position may be a paid one, or occupied on a voluntary basis. There are 170 lay workers listed across Australia and New Zealand. The Qld district has 46 people on the list.

Board for Lay Ministry The Core Focus of the Board through the employment of Lay Worker Formation Officers is: Ensuring local support is provided for Lay Workers throughout their employment, such as mentors, support groups, prayer partners and peer networks. Networking and encouraging Employers around good ministry and employment practices.

Board for Lay Ministry We will help to affirm their vocational calling, guide their formation and development and assist in ensuring that they get the support they need from their employer. We provide support and pastoral care when necessary to the lay worker during their highs and lows, and help them and their employer resolve issues associated with their ministry, their employment, their accreditation process and their continuing professional development.
