Explain your experiences in a story-like format that works with the information provided in your resume Allow you to go in-depth about important experiences/skills and relate them to job requirements Show the employer that you are individualizing (tailoring) this job application Provide a sample of your written communication skills

Cover Letter Components Explain why you are sending a resume. Be specific: Do you want a summer internship opportunity, or a permanent position at graduation; are you inquiring about future employment possibilities? Tell specifically how you learned about the position or the organization a flyer posted in your department, a web site, a family friend Ok to mention the name of who suggested that you write. Convince the reader to look at your resume. well written and targeted to that employer. Call attention to elements of your background education, leadership, experience relevant to position youre seeking. use examples.

List the companies you worked for, dates of employment, the positions you held and a bulleted list of responsibilities and achievements.
