LAV L0 trigger primitives Mauro Raggi, Francesco Gonnella TDAQ Working Group

Introduction  The baseline solution for LAV L0 includes only LAV12 in October  According to trigger rate estimates this accounts for most of the total rejection factor  Set of primitives for single LAV station  Estimate of the time resolution (based on detector test beams)  The more refined solution include all the LAV (1-12)  Difficult to have it ready for October  Subject to the delivery and testing of the intertel boards  Brand new part of the firmware to be implemented.  Timing issues to be addressed due to LAV to LAV distance. 2 April 2014Francesco Gonnella - Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati2

L0 trigger word  Output to L0 Trigger Processor  Trigger primitive ID to be defined 2 April 2014Francesco Gonnella - Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati4  We suggest to use the following coding for the LAV  Primitive ID bits 23:22 will be set to ‘1’ to enable auto-trigger feature  Primitive ID: Bits 21:16 to be used to transmit the number of firing blocks and bits 31:24 for the real primitive ID  Reserved bits may be used to transmit the estimated total charge in the station (sum of charges) for debug purposes

Possible single-station primitive  Muon like particle (or low energy): Primitive ID: xx xxxx  Only low threshold in a block with leading and trailing and small ToT  No more than 5 blocks  Photon like particle (Mid energy): Primitive ID: xx xxxx  Full hit (T H and T L ) reconstructed in at least 3 block  At least 1 block with E>0.5 GeV (made using T Lead (High)-T lead (Low)  High multiplicity (High Energy): Primitive ID: xx xxxx  More than 10 blocks with full hit  Total Energy >5 GeV Note: Trigger conditions are not mutually exclusive Note: the estimate of the energy will be very raw and has still to be implemented. 2 April 2014Francesco Gonnella - Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati5

Estimated trigger time resolution  The estimate of the time resolution takes into account  The time resolution per single block is measured to be few hundred ps.  Firmware slewing correction (when applicable)  Firmware average of block times  Electronics intrinsic resolution of ~100ps  For all the triggers with complete hits Photon and High Multiplicity the trigger time resolution will be well below 1ns  For the Muon trigger the slewing is not performed and therefore a resolution of few (<4 ns) could be expected 2 April 2014Francesco Gonnella - Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati6
