ICEL The Good News Requirements for a love relationship with God Exodus 20:18-20 Pastor Seth Sakyi-Gyinae

ICEL Exodus 20:18-20 (NIV) 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, ‘Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not let God speak to us or we will die.’ 20 Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.’

ICEL I. KNOW THAT GOD REQUIRES A HIGH STANDARD OF OBEDIENCE (Exod 20:20) A. Covenant Relationship – Chp 19 Laws governing the Covenant – Chp 20. B. Purpose of the Law? Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.’ Exod 20:20 Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.’ My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. 1 John 2:1a My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. Who has been able to live up to this divine standard?

ICEL II. ACCEPT GOD'S OWN PROVISION TO FULFIL HIS REQUIREMENT (Luke 2: 9-16) 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.’ 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favour rests.’

ICEL II. ACCEPT GOD'S OWN PROVISION TO FULFIL HIS REQUIREMENT (Luke 2: 9-16) 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.’ 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.

ICEL II. ACCEPT GOD'S OWN PROVISION TO FULFIL HIS REQUIREMENT (Luke 2: 9-16) The Saviour Himself is God; He is born today Results of faith in Him: forgiveness union with Him fruitfulness divine sympathy
