Presentation transcript:

Lesson Objectives Explain the need for secondary storage. Describe common storage technologies such as optical, magnetic and solid state. Describe flash memory. Select suitable storage devices and storage media for a given application and justify their choice using characteristics such as capacity, speed, portability, durability and reliability.

Primary Storage What are the two types of primary storage? Which one is Read Only and runs the boot program? Which one holds information about software and applications that are running?

Secondary Storage Secondary storage is used to store data and programs when the power is switched off. Why do we need secondary storage? RAM is volatile so the contents are lost if the power is switched off; ROM can only store pre-programmed data and programs

Groups Pairs You will be given 1 type of secondary storage to research on the internet. You must produce a fact sheet about the type of storage You will then share your fact sheet with other groups.
