Advocating global public policies that advance the IT industry’s growth and development. Strengthening WITSA’s national IT industry associations’ own policy agenda. Providing a voice for the global IT industry at Multilateral Organizations. Public Policy Value Proposition

Objectives of WITSA ’ s Public Policy Statements Provide assessment and analysis of important issues affecting the global IT industry and WITSA members. Make available to national and international policymakers the common views of WITSA members. Publish information on the WITSA website as a global resource and educational tool.

What are the Global Public Policy Issues? What are the Global Public Policy Issues? Does the legal and regulatory framework promote e-business? Will there be security to protect transactions, privacy, and intellectual property? Will the infrastructure support the Global Digital Economy? What is needed to facilitate the use of ICT for e-government? ICT=economic development ? ? ? ?

1. Increasing Trade in IT Goods and Services 1. Increasing Trade in IT Goods and Services Organize a WITSA Delegation to Participate in future WTO meeting. The Fifth WTO Ministerial Conference held in Cancún, Mexico in September 2003 to take stock of progress in negotiations. WITSA Delegation attended the Cancun meetings and issued the “Statement on International Trade Negotiations and ICT Products and Services.”

2. Supporting ICT Infrastructure Deployment 2. Supporting ICT Infrastructure Deployment Drafted a WITSA Paper on Recent ICANN Developments in technical management of the Internet. Drafted WITSA Statement on the Policy Implication of Radio Frequency Identifiers (RFIDs). Drafted Statement on Offshore Outsourcing

3. Facilitating ICT for E-Government 3. Facilitating ICT for E-Government WITSA supports ICT solutions for governments. WITSA continues to focus attention on the ICT issues relating to the implementation of e-government. Drafted a Statement on e- procurement guidelines.

4. Seizing Digital Opportunities 4. Seizing Digital Opportunities WITSA works to prevent a digital divide and to promote digital opportunities for all. Organized a WITSA delegation to attend the WSIS conference in Geneva in December Provide WITSA comments on issues raised by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Continue WITSA involvement in the WSIS process.
