Main global event to discuss emerging ICT trends and the role of measurement High-level segment bringing together leaders from Government, industry, academia Presentation and adoption of the work of EGTI and EGH Agreed outcomes and recommendations for future work on ICT statistics The World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS) is the main global forum to discuss latest trends and emerging issues related to ICT statistics and information society measurements. Organized by ITU/BDT annually, WTIS brings together key players involved in producing, analyzing and disseminating telecommunication/ICT statistics, including representatives from Ministries, regulatory agencies, telecommunication operating companies and national statistical offices, as well as experts from the private sector, academia and international organizations. WTIS has been growing over the years. It has become one of the main ITU/BDT events with high-level attendance from Governments, Private Sector, Academia, and more than 500 participants from over 80 countries. The agreed outcomes and recommendations of WTIS provide guidance to ITU and member states in terms of future work on ICT statistics. The results of the work of our two statistical expert groups (the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators or EGTI and the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators or EGH) are also presented for adoption by WTIS.

Main conclusions and recommendations: ICTs are key to the data revolution. New data sources, big data, IoT data, mobile applications data, should be further explored New challenges need to be addressed - security, privacy, data protection, measurement The fixed infrastructure gap in developing countries needs to be addressed New measurement paradigms emerge calling for public-private partnerships; NSOs, Ministries, civil society and business sector need to collaborate – ITU should take an active role to facilitate Draft UN Principles for data access were welcomed, to facilitate partnerships and data sharing arrangements; consultation process with ITU membership launched More data are needed to track ICT innovation Endorsement of the work of EGTI and EGH: modified mobile broadband classification; review of ICT Price Baskets; new indicators on barriers to ICTs; need to collect ICT SDG indicators; new work on digital financial services Available on:

It is released annually and features key ICT data and benchmarking tools to measure the information society, including the ICT Development Index (IDI), which is used very widely by countries, the industry and analysts in their assessments of ICT progress. The Report attracts considerable attention from countries and the media worldwide.
