Divine wisdom alone is filling and truthful Redeemer Lutheran Church Sunday, August 23 rd 2015

Welcome to Redeemer! Our Gospel lesson continues the series on Jesus’ “Bread of Life” sermon in John 6. Jesus’ flesh and blood, given and shed on the cross, are the food and drink our souls need to give our hearts the spiritual wisdom that leads to eternal life.

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about Redeemer and its ministry, please talk to Pastor Wolfe or a church member after the service.

Children’s Message Each week, our younger worshipers are invited to the front of church before the sermon hymn to hear a special message for them from Pastor Wolfe.

Every Morning Mercies New CW #580 Verses 1-4 Text: Greville Phillimore, Setting:VOLLER WUNDER Tune: Johann G. Ebeling,

Verse 1: Ev'ry morning mercies new Fall as fresh as morning dew; Ev'ry morning let us pay Tribute with the early day. For your mercies, Lord, are sure; Your compassion will endure.

Verse 2: Still your kindness and your love Ev'ry day our sins remove; Daily, far as east from west, Lift the burden from the breast; Give unbought to those who pray Strength to live for you each day.

Verse 3: Let our prayers each morn prevail That these gifts may never fail. And as we confess our sin And the tempter's pow'r within, Feed us with the bread of life; Fit us for our daily strife.

Verse 4: As the morning light returns, As the sun with splendor burns, Teach us still to turn to you; With your light our souls renew. Then shall we our voices raise In unfailing prayer and praise.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Pastor: Lord, how I love your law! All: I meditate on it all day long.

Opening Verses Pastor: Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, All: for they are ever with me. Pastor: I have more insight than all my teachers All: for I meditate on your statutes.

Opening Verses Pastor: How sweet are your words to my taste, All: sweeter than honey to my mouth! Pastor: All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Opening Verses All: so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Pastor: Yet so often we have despised God’s Word and failed to gladly hear and learn it. For this and all our sins, we bow before God and humbly ask his forgiveness.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Verse 1: When all your mercies, O my God, My waking soul surveys, Transported with the view I'm lost In wonder, love, and praise.
