Welcome to St. Peter! The Scripture readings, prayers and hymns in our worship services this week remind us that the Church on earth is militant: we will daily struggle with sin and temptation as we live in this vale of tears and sorrow. But God’s Word is powerful and it helps us fix our eyes on Jesus and his Church above that is triumphant. May God bless your worship, and we hope you will come again.

Welcome to St. Peter! There are friendship registers at the end of each row. Please take a moment to give us your information so that we have a record of your time with us today. Thank you!

For Our Guests If you have questions, let us try to help. Speak with an usher, greeter, or the person next to you. If you’d like to learn more about St. Peter and its ministry, please talk to a pastor or member after the service.

Need to Know what’s going on? Our church website has the info you need right at your fingertips Check the church calendar. Sign up for seminars or events. Get access to devotions, sermons, and more. www.stpeterschofield.org

Prayer before Worship O Lord – our Maker, Redeemer and Comforter – we are assembled in your presence to hear your holy Word. We pray that you would open our hearts by your Holy Spirit, that through the preaching of your Word we may repent of our sins, believe in Jesus, and grow day be day in grace and holiness. Hear us for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus CW #474 Text: George Duffield, Jr., 1818-88 Setting: WEBB Tune: George J. Webb, 1803-87

Verse 1: Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross! Lift high his royal banner; it must not suffer loss. From vict’ry unto vict’ry his army shall he lead Till ev’ry foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.

Verse 2: Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The trumpet call obey; Forth to the mighty conflict in this his glorious day! Ye that are brave, now serve him against unnumbered foes; Let courage rise with danger and strength to strength oppose.

Verse 3: Stand up, stand up for Jesus! Stand in his strength alone. The arm of flesh will fail you; ye dare not trust your own. Put on the gospel armor; each piece put on with prayer; Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.

Verse 4 (Please Rise): Stand up, stand up for Jesus! The strife will not be long; This day the noise of battle, the next, the victor’s song. To him that overcometh a crown of life shall be; He with the King of glory shall reign eternally.

Opening Verses Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen. Pastor: Oh, how I love your law! All: I meditate on it all day long.

Opening Verses Pastor: Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, All: for they are ever with me. Pastor: I have more insight than all my teachers All: for I meditate on your statutes.

Opening Verses Pastor: How sweet are your words to my taste, All: sweeter than honey to my mouth! Pastor: All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

Opening Verses All: so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Pastor: Yet so often we have despised God’s Word and failed to gladly hear and learn it. For this and all our sins, we bow before God and humbly ask his forgiveness.

Confession of Sin All: Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity.

Confession of Sin All: But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.

(Pastor announces our forgiveness) All: Amen.

Prayer of the Day Pastor: Let us pray. (Pastor says the prayer of the day) All: Amen.

Pastor: Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? All: If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

Pastor: If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, All: Even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
