Climate How does it shape the environment?

What is climate? It is the average, year-after-year conditions of temperature and precipitation in a particular region

What are the causes of climate? Trapping of heat by the atmosphere The latitude of the region The shape and elevation of the land masses

How does the atmosphere have an effect on the temperature? Solar energy passes through the atmosphere as sunlight. It hits the surface of the Earth and is radiated back into the atmosphere. The gases in the atmosphere (CO 2, methane, water vapor, and other gasses) traps the radiated heat from leaving.

Greenhouse Effect This is called the greenhouse effect Without the greenhouse effect, the earth would be 30 Celsius degrees cooler. Greenhouse effect causes the Earth to be warm.

How does latitude have an effect on temperature? Because the earth is a tilted sphere the angle of the sun’s ray strike it differently The more direct the strike = the warmer the climate

Three Climate Zones Polar Temperate Tropical

Does the Climate Affect the Biodiversity of an Area? YES What are the components of a climate? Precipitation Temperature

How do They Affect Types of Life Found in an Area? Precipitation Types of plants or producers that can grow Number of producers Producers determine the number of consumers Temperature Type of plants and animals Features that they have Amount of life that can survive
