5 Nov 2008P. Tropea2 Cooling plant Cooling system technical specification (including general layout dwgs of the caverns) Cooling plants general layout (not updated): UXC55 UXC55far Pixels Components Technical files (common to C6F14 plants) Some newer components missing. Trying to collect the whole…

5 Nov 2008P. Tropea4 Piping – materials & joints Type and quality For Tracker: bundles of pipes are 12 mm ID from PP1 to PP2, 14 mm ID from PP2 to the cooling plants For Pixels: bundle of pipes are 12 mm ID all along the path PP1/plant Quality of the pipes: soft copper, cleanliness level as per EN (Round pipes without welding for air conditioning and refrigeration – Max residual after solvent evaporation 38 mg/m2 – for medical applications this value is 20 mg/m2) Brazing procedure qualification In the frame of the manufacturing of the cooling circuit of the CMS tracker, Cu tubes have to be hand torch brazed. Samples have been produced by O. Morin TS/MME (lap joints: sleeve and nesting) to assess acceptance criteria through tensile, pressure and metallographic tests. Cu tubes: C12200 Filler material: Silfos 5 (AWS B-CuP3) (no flux brazing paste)

5 Nov 2008P. Tropea5 Piping – brazing Acceptance criteria: - visual inspection, - tensile test and Rm > 220 MPa - leak test 30 min 20 bar, burst test (>200 bar), - metallurgical section: continuous ligament >3mm, total ligament. 5mm over 8 mm length 2.3 mm 1.4 mm 7.1 mm
