QUICK DEFINITIONS SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS: Awarded based on merit (grades, service, extra-curricular activities, etc.) or income. Does not have to be paid back after you graduate. STUDENT LOANS: Awarded based on income to cover the cost of college. You must begin paying these back six months after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time student status.

Direct subsidized Loans, Direct unsubsidized loans, subsidized federal Stafford loans, and unsubsidized federal Stafford Loans have a six-month grace period after you graduate, leave school, or drop below half-time student status.

You can reduce or avoid significant loans by: 1.Earning a high school GPA of at minimum of a 2.5 up to 3.6^ 2.Attending a public or private college or university in Indiana 3.Working with PCRHS counselors to follow your college and career plan

To be admitted, your need to have the following academic requirements: Let’s say you want to attend Indiana State University in A GPA of 2.5 or higher If you are a 21 st Century Scholar, this is also the GPA you must maintain to receive your award regardless of the college you attend.

It will not cover Room and Board, book fees, or other supply fees. When you are admitted, you need to examine what it will cost. That leaves $10,246.5 that you need to pay. Indiana State has a supplemental awards for eligible 21 st Century Scholars that will significantly decrease cost of attendance.

If 21 st Century Scholars covers your cost of tuition, you will need to secure an additional $40,984. $40,984 - $23,367 (max Pell grant funds) = $17,617 (Stafford Loan amount) With an interest rate of 4.29% (Stafford Loan), your monthly cost will be: $181, paid over 10 years. Total expense of loan (with interest added) = $21,696 Good grades days of class = earn you $29 per day

IU – Bloomington and Purdue University, both great in-state public schools, also have opportunities for 21 st Century Scholars. IU- BLOOMINGTON 75% of the incoming freshman class had an average high school GPA of 3.47 or higher IU Covenant award – available to all 21 st Century Scholar students admitted to IU – Bloomington. Covers room & board and book expenses (not covered by 21 st Century award) PURDUE – WEST LAFAYETTE 75% of the incoming freshman class had an average high school GPA of 3.5 or higher Purdue Promise award and program – available to all 21 st Century Scholar students admitted to Purdue. Covers room & board and book expenses (not covered by 21 st Century award) Program also provides tutoring, mentoring, and other transition to college resources

If IU & Purdue did not provide 21 st Century Scholars an all expenses paid scholarship, you would need to fund an additional $46,000. $ 46,000 - $23,367 (max Pell grant funds) = $22,633 (Stafford Loan amount) With an interest rate of 4.29% (Stafford Loan), your monthly cost will be: $232, paid over 10 years. Total loan expense (with interest added) = $27,874 Good grades days of class = earn you $37.5 per day

If you attend a private college or university, such as Marian University, the cost is: MARIAN UNIVERSITYANNUAL COST Tuition and fees$31,500 Room and Board$9,720 Books$1,200 Total direct costs$42,420 If attending a private school, a 21 st Century Scholar receives an award of $7,795 towards tuition for the year. $31,500 -$7,795 = $23,705 remaining tuition for Your counselor will recommend that you apply for scholarships that can help cover books and room & board. Average incoming freshman GPA is a 3.4 or higher. 21st Century Scholars, Marian offers 25 full tuition and fees scholarship. $42,420 - $31,500 = $10,920 remaining to pay for

If Marian did not provide 25 additional scholarships to 21 st Century Scholars, you would need to fund $138,500 for tuition, books, and room & board $138,500 - $23,367 (Max Pell Grant) = $115,133 (Loan amount) With an interest rate of 4.29% (Stafford Loan rate), your monthly cost will be: $1,182, paid over 10 years. Total loan expense (with interest added) = $141,792

St. Mary of the Woods (SMW), PCRHS is sponsored by the Sisters of Providence, is a private school SMW COSTSANNUAL COST Tuition and fees$28,932 Room and Board$10,700 Book$1,200 Total direct costs$40,832 If attending a private school, a 21 st Century Scholar receives an award for cost of attendance equivalent to Ivy Tech. In this case it would be an award of $7,795. $40,832 - $7,795= $33,037 remaining tuition for For 21 st Century Scholars, SMW has a four-year full tuition and fees scholarship for students with a 3.0 GPA or higher. With an interest rate of 4.29% (Stafford Loan rate), your monthly cost will be: $251, paid over 10 years. Total Loan Expense: $30,172. $40,832 - $28,932 (scholarship) - $5,775 (max Pell Grant) = $6,125 remaining to pay for

The University of Indianapolis is providing all PCR grads that are admitted to their university a full tuition AND housing scholarship. Maintaining a good GPA. Schools will give more grants and scholarships to students who have performed well academically. Talking with PCRHS counselors about how to prepare to pay for college, what your financial aid options are, and what schools you are interested in attending. Research scholarships to apply for that can supplement financial aid offered by colleges and universities. Counselors can show you where to look for these scholarships and how to apply for them.
