Best Practices Forum & Additional Program Support Wendi Richardson, Assistant Director Office of Early College Programs

Best Practices Introduction of UConn ECE  Information assemblies for parents prior to students selecting courses (some as early as freshman and sophomore year)  Presentations made to students in feeder classes  School counselor newsletters, blogs, tweets, e- mails and Powerschool announcements  Parent letters  ECE instructors recruit students

Best Practices Sample blog-

Best Practices Managing UConn ECE Registration  Obtain list of students with UConn ECE course on their schedule, use as reference to monitor registration  Coordinate registration plan with guidance counselors and ECE course instructors  Keep copies of signed consent forms if students will upload at home  Let students know they can save an electronic copy with a cell phone photo (see online tutorial)  Some schools collect all signed consent forms and individually scan for students  If possible, schedule a room with computer access (career centers, library, computer labs, etc..)and assist with online registration with blocks of students  Encourage students to use tools on UConn ECE website (instructions, video tutorials, etc..) prior to applying or enrolling online, either at home or at school.

Best Practices Managing Registration- Follow up  Use Powerschool rosters as reference to monitor UConn ECE Enrollment  Monitor UConn ECE Registration Status Reports to cross- check application status, NetID activation, and course enrollments  or text students that have not successfully completed steps in the registration process  When possible, work with students one-on-one to help through the online registration process  Touch base with guidance counselors and UConn ECE course instructors to remind students to follow through with all steps in the registration process

Best Practices Developing and Growing Your UConn ECE Program  Review UConn ECE available courses each year to see if there is a good fit for your school  Use evening events to inform parents about the program and share student success data  Periodically meet with department chairs and teachers to find potential course fits  Attend Board of Education meetings to share program data  Use existing UConn ECE teachers to present benefits to other teachers  Start early with your students- present UConn ECE opportunities to Freshman and Sophomore students and parents.

UConn ECE Ambassador Program  Each high school will have the opportunity to have a student available to assist with UConn ECE registration, and to help present the benefits of UConn ECE to their fellow students.  Students chosen to be the UConn ECE Ambassador will receive a number of benefits  Easy selection and monitoring process

Best Practices Resources & Tools You Asked For!  A new report with student NetID’s and activation codes  Sample parent letters (including a Spanish version!)  A Powerpoint presentation for use at student/parent assemblies  Updated video tutorials  Welcome video for classroom use 
