 Review acceptable computer use policy  Review Internet contract acceptable online behavior  Ms. Dougherty’s expectations: - use the Internet for purposes related specifically to this class - use the Internet for other school related purposes with permission - all other uses will result in discipline

 Don’t share personal information  Don’t provide personal information in online forms, surveys, contest registration, etc.  Be cautious when following links provided by others  Don’t agree to meet in person with an online friend  Be proactive when others make inappropriate comments or send inappropriate content (bullying, sexual harassment, etc.)

 View the URL of the site before you follow the link  Use specific search queries and avoid typos  The Internet puts the world at your fingertips, be judicious about what you choose to look for

 Don’t use personal information  Don’t download a file without making sure it comes from a reputable site (you could be downloading a virus or spyware)  Be cautious when using a credit card online

 Use good netiquette (Quiz)Quiz - proper usernames, no flaming, avoid keyboard muscles, no spamming  Use filters and don’t open messages marked as spam or from strange addresses  Use moderated chat rooms  Follow the same rules for social networking sites

 Online copyright infringement runs rampant!  File-sharing, copying text and images are all examples of copyright violations  Instead, buy the songs or software, quote the text and give credit to the author, and ask for permission to use images while giving credit to the owner
