Presentation transcript:

The goal of our project was to make a contraption that allowed a marble to run through several obstacles in 15 seconds without stopping until the end. We found or made most of the materials from around the house and bought the tubing, funnel, dowels and foam base. We decided on The Chugger, after we already bought the funnel, while watching Old School.

A steel ball bearing begins in a funnel and travels through a winding, twisting tube onto the “liquor luge” where it proceeds through more spiraling tube. It then jumps into the beer stein traveling downward, going through one more tube into our TA’s mouth.

Ball –Gravitational Potential Energy to Rotational Kinetic Energy Funnel –Provides basis for Rotational Kinetic Energy “Liquor Luge” –Friction loss opposite of balls direction Beer Stein –Gravitational Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy TA’s mouth –Elastic Collision at end of run

The construction of our coaster took approximately 10 hours. Our presentation and visuals consumed around half the time of the coaster. Some problems we encountered were –Keeping the ball in motion –Limited space –Aligning the tube correctly Our coaster ended up better then we hoped for when we started.
