WIDESCREEN PRESENTATION Tips and tools for creating and presenting wide format slides

Definition o Promise of the internet o Method of using remote servers on the internet to do data processing and storage. o As said by the National Institute for Standards and Technology, “cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient on demand network access to a pool of configurable computing resources.”

3 kinds 1. Software as a Service (SaaS) Applications delivered to the end-user through a web browser. 2. Platform as a Service (PaaS) Providers deliver apps over the internet and host users’ hardware and software on their infrastructure. 3. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) A third-party provider hosts virtualized resources over the internet.

Examples  Google Drive Google Drive can access Google docs, Google sheets, and Google Slides because it is a pure cloud computing service. It can be access in smartphones, tablets, and laptops. There are separate apps for Docs and Sheets as well. Other examples are Gmail, Google Calendar, Google maps, and so on.

Examples 2. Apple iCloud This is primarily used for online storage, backup, and synchronization of your mail, contacts, calendar, and more. All the data will be stored in your iOS, Mac OS, or Windows device. It offers Pages (word processor), Numbers (spreadsheet), and Keynote (presentations) for use by any iCloud subscriber. It offers an app called Find My iPhone to track your apple device if it goes missing.

Uses o To create a document over the internet and then being able to access it from any internet-connected computer in the world with no effort on your part.

Pros 1. Accessible anywhere 2. Low power 3. Outsource administration 4. Reduced cost 5. Increased storage

Cons 1. No control 2. Downtime 3. Privacy 4. Speed and latency

In the classroom 1. Cloud classrooms Students can connect with other students in another classroom from a different locality and communicate well

In the classroom 2. Educational technology in the classroom Teachers are able to customize their teachings on a mobile device and display them in websites.

In the classroom 3. Lecturing Students are able to interact with their teachers in the comfort of their homes.

In the classroom 4. Group projects Students may create a group chat to discuss their projects and homework conveniently.

In the classroom 5. Accessibility Students may access eBooks, documents, photos, and music on their tablets, phones, and laptops without traffic delays.

Quick review 1. What are the three kinds of cloud computing? Answer: SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS 2. What is the use of using cloud computing services? Answer: To access documents, made on one device, on other devices conveniently with the use of internet connection.
