Clothing Anne you might think that the gear you have in Canberra is fine but the temperatures get much lower then Canberra’s temperatures. Wool is the best the for keeping heat in and keeping the body comfortable. The Inner layer (shirt and pants)- This should be soft and comfortable for movement and should be able to be worn for long periods of time. Insulating layer (the layer that keeps the heat in)- This layer can be either have several lightweight jumpers for flexibility or one heavy jumper. The Outer Layer (the layer that is which is most exposed to wind and weather)- This layer needs to heavy and very windproof. Neck, Feet, Hands and Head- Neck should be supported and light but also needs good insulation. Feet need to have long and thick socks and also light shoes for travelling. Hands need thick and woolly gloves. Head needs snow glasses for wind and sun and also woolly headgear.

When and How to get to Antarctica! Getting to Antarctica is nor a cheap or easy task. Most cruises will only go to the Antarctic peninsula. The best place to set off would be in South America. The south of Argentina is where most Antarctic cruises set off. The best time to go to Antarctica would be when it is the most warm (even though it is always cold). The months that would be best would be around early January, this is also when most cruises will set off the Antarctica. July is not a good month because this is when Antarctica is at its most coldest.

Food for the Trip You need to pack very sustainable food so you don’t have to carry as much when you are travelling around. But you still need a lot of food. Five thousand calories could be needed for the extreme conditions. Vitamins and Protein need to be sustained. The most easily stored food are the fruits and vegetables. Food need to be kept at controlled temperatures so it can be used later. A good way to get water is by melting the ice and snow around you.

Getting around Antarctica. Husky dogs are no longer allowed in Antarctica for environmental reasons. These reason are that they were killing animals that lived there. There are few places where planes can set in Antarctica. These places are for scientists and research. Some boats will travel into Antarctica through its ice. The best land travel option are snowmobiles. It is also recommended that you take mountain climbing gear if you want to explore mountainous areas.

Who to go with Antarctica is not a tourist type of place and there are treaties so that you can’t just go there to look around. You have to go with a group of scientists and going to Antarctica should be only for scientific purposes. Private expeditions just be supported by yourself and is extremely expensive. You should never go to Antarctica by yourself and is almost impossible to do it by yourself.
