Lab Report Requirements and Format -A lab report is a way to report your findings in an experiment -Your lab report must be very specific so it is reproducible (can be repeated) by another person exactly -This is not a process for solving problems it is for reporting findings, the scientific method is the process this is to report your results.

Rules for Writing a Lab Report 1- WRITE each section heading 2- INDENT on the second line and any other line used in that section, makes it easy to find sections 3- UNDERLINE the if, then, and because in your hypothesis 4- LIST (vertical) materials and NUMBER and LIST procedures 5- Be very SPECIFIC and DETAILED in all parts, especially in the procedure section so it is reproducible

LAB REPORT REQUIREMENTS and FORMAT Title- What your lab is about? Background- Any prior information about concept, may want to address any misconceptions (5 sentences) Purpose- What questions are you trying to answer? Why are we performing this lab? Hypothesis- If applicable: what do you anticipate happening and why? Must be written in If…then…because… statement Materials- List of any -and all equipment/materials -needed to perform -experiment Safety- Observe all appropriate safety conditions (list of safety equipment if needed) Procedure- 1- A numbered list (or steps) of instructions to perform experiment. 2- Use specific details so your experiment can be reproduced by someone else. 3-Also you may use labeled diagrams to assist and describe how you intend to perform experiment.

Lab reports cont. Conclusion- Make sense of your data, this means that, why do you think this happened, does your conclusion support your hypothesis? Analysis- Interpretation of your raw data and any trends Observations: Data- Quantative and/or Qualitative this is where you put any graph or table
