Academy Consultation Meeting Welcome! What is an academy? What changes will this mean? Why make the changes? How will this affect education? What will remain the same? FAQs

Welcome What is the meeting about? Portway Primary School is being sponsored by the Leading Learning Trust to become an academy on the 1 st April 2016; The Leading Learning Trust will be led by Selwyn Primary School.

What is an academy? Academies are independent of the Local Authority (LA); Publicly funded by the DfE ; Inspected by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED); Major component of the Government’s plans for improving education; Follow same regulations; Serve its community.

What is an Academy Trust A charitable company responsible for the running of the academy. Leading Learning Trust The Leading Learning Trust is the overarching body LLT will ensure that the schools within it work together to secure and maintain the highest outcomes for all of the pupils.

What are the aims of the Trust and the Schools Remain at the heart of the local community; Continue to reflect the needs of our local environment; Trust’s core purpose is providing outstanding educational experiences; Continual focus on partnership and the benefits of mutual support; Ensure the fundamental values underpinning good citizenship are a strong and unifying element of the Trust.

What changes will this mean? Greater control: – How the School is run – How the School spends the monies allocated Part of a Multi-Academy Trust: – Develop existing partnerships – Develop new partnerships – Develop relationship with community

Why make these changes? Support the School as it moves from challenging times; Enables a strong provision to delivering excellent education; Opportunities to: – Developing stronger partnerships; – Working with others; – Expanded leadership experience for staff.

How will this affect education? Wider Trust Education expertise to deliver support to children across both schools; Create a living network of educational excellence.

How will converting enable the School to become outstanding? Continue developing educational delivery, leading to the highest standards in teaching; Outstanding qualities of leadership in place throughout the Trust; Clear ethos of high expectations and excellent behaviour; A total commitment to the emotional, social and intellectual well-being of children.

What will remain the same? Admissions and inclusions – no changes to admissions criteria; – commitment to all children including those with special education needs and those with autistic spectrum disorders. – School times will remain the same as now. – Uniform will stay the same.

Next steps Finalise funding arrangements with DfE; Finalise educational delivery plan between the schools; Seek to maximise all opportunities that the proposed changes may present.
