VocabularyVocabulary From Robert Marzano In Educational Leadership

Vocabulary Word - Mutualism The crocodile and a bird called the Egyptian plover have a relationship in which the crocodile opens its mouth and invites the plover to stand inside. The plover picks things out of the crocodiles teeth. Both parties benefit, as the plover gets to eat and the crocodile get its teeth cleaned!

The Definition Can you state the example in your own words? Pair Share.

Your Turn Draw a picture or symbol that demonstrates your understanding of mutualism. It must be a different picture than the crocodile and bird.

Activity Categorize your vocabulary words according to the categories your teacher has given you.

Activity Looking at the examples on the SMART board, volunteer to write next to the example the vocabulary word from your list that is correct.

Activity Create sentences with a partner, using your vocabulary words. Share them with another pair. Choose the best sentences from your group of four. Share those sentences with the whole class.

Posters In groups, draw a poster of the vocabulary word that has been assigned to you. Include: 1. The word 2. A group definition. It can be a synonym. 3. A visual(s) 4. An antonym

Apples to Apples Using a lesson’s vocabulary words and an Apples to Apples game: 1. Choose a vocabulary word. 2. Share the word with your small group. 3. Each member in the group then chooses one of their cards that they best think fits that vocabulary word. 4. When everyone has submitted a card, they are turned over and the group member who had the word selects the best representation for the vocabulary word and explains why.

Pictionary In groups of four: 1. Choose a drawer and send the drawer to the teacher for a vocabulary word. 2. Draw clues to the word. 3. As soon as your group gets the word, the member who guessed the word runs to the teacher for the next vocabulary word on her/his list. 4. Your goal is to correctly guess every word on the teacher’s list.

Charades You will be in groups of three-four. One member from each group will go to the teacher and get a word. You will act the word out to your group. As soon as your group gets the word, the person who guessed the word runs to the teacher to get the next word. Your goal is to continue until the teacher’s list is completed.
