Preparedness Preparedness is knowing the warning signs and what to do during an emergency. A fire drill is an example of preparedness.

Response Response is taking the actions necessary to protect yourself from harm during an emergency. Leaving a building through a designated exit during a fire is an example of response.

Recovery Recovery is what you do after an emergency to return to your normal life and make yourself safer. Undertaking home repairs is an example of recovery.

Mitigation Mitigation is preventing the emergencies or taking actions to lessen the harmful effects of unavoidable emergencies. Purchasing insurance is an example of mitigation. return
