Skills and Qualities Lesson objective: To understand the difference between skills and qualities To understand the skills and qualities you can gain from unpaid work

What is a skill A skill is something you learn or something you are naturally good at that you can use in your work Examples include; – Communication skills (how to answer questions, talk to people), technical skills (operating machinery), home management skills (time management, managing people), learning new things (taking phone calls, achieving a qualification)

What is a quality A quality is a more personal attribute which can describe the kind of person you are. Examples include; – Confidence, patience, empathy, determination, perseverance, punctuality, dependability, flexibility, loyalty, being thoughtful, being kid, creative, responsible Think of a good quality of the person next to you and tell them!

Task You need to create a leaflet that could be given to a Year 7 student that explains to them what a skill and a quality is You need to; – Define what a skill is – Define what a quality is – Give examples of the different skills and qualities you could have (think about what we’ve gone over in this lesson) – Explain how you could get or improve those skills – Explain why it is important to have skills and qualities How could it help them in school or in the future
