1 Writing a successful CV
A CV - Curriculum Vitae: is a way in which an employer decides if you have the attributes, skills and experience that could make you suitable to work for them. It is an ADVERT about you, selling your best points and what you have to offer an employer, Sixth Form or College. It is your chance to show your achievements and be proud of yourself. It must be factual. It must be truthful. It must be concise, clear and no more than 2 pages of A4 long. It must be well presented, neat, with no spelling mistakes. It should tell an employer your personal details. It should tell an employer about your skills and attributes. It maybe that you are later asked how and when you have used the skills listed. It should be written with thought, and be individual and personal to you. Your CV could be the difference between being offered an interview or not. Competition for Sixth Forms, Colleges, Saturday, Part Time and Full Time jobs will be high - your CV can open the door to these opportunities. Often 60 people can apply for one job, which could include your best friend. You will be in competition with everyone to be the BEST! It is a working document so will need to be regularly updated and changed.

6 Writing a successful CV
Personal Statement 1 examples I am a person with many characteristics. I am very hardworking, dedicated, confident and punctual. I am self motivated, communicate well and feel happy working in a group or as an individual. As an extremely hardworking and motivated student at school I have achieved high grades in all my subjects. I am very punctual for school and my lessons and as a result have been awarded certificates for good attendance many times. I am a class representative and therefore have to discuss issues regarding the school. This has made me more self confident and has improved my communication skills. I am very organised and reliable as I have always completed all my coursework on time and have met deadlines. I produce independently, clear meaningful pieces of writing in a variety of forms and consequently my coursework is of a high standard. My coursework has also shown that I can follow my own lines of enquiry, commenting constructively or reasoning with logic. I would describe myself as being honest and patient as well as keen and enthusiastic in everything I do as I believe if you're going to do something you might as well do it to the best of your ability and enjoy it. I enjoy studying science as I find it very interesting, challenging and based on facts relating to everyday life. While studying for my G.C.S.E.’s class work, coursework and revision had increased and I had to meet important deadlines. It was during this time I learnt to manage my time effectively and to balance the demands of studying yet still taking time to relax. I am good at accepting new ideas and adapting to new situations t and this was demonstrated during my work experience in an office environment. I learnt how to use different programmes on the computer and how to make databases and customer's accounts. I was taught vital skills such as filing, faxing and organisation. I was very polite and helpful as I was constantly asking for jobs to do. I was trusted to with important jobs such as answering the phone and some accounts putting my knowledge of numbers and problem solving to the test. At home I am also given many responsibilities which include looking after young children as I am very trustworthy and get along with them well. I like to lead an active life and therefore in my spare time I like playing different kinds of sports. My favourite sport is badminton and I have represented my school on numerous occasions. I am also a member of the London Schools Badminton Association. I also enjoy going on the computer and using the internet regularly for many different purposes including research and communication and inevitably find computers easy to use. I am also a very sociable person and enjoy going out with my friends.

7 Writing a successful CV Providing the information part 4
Personal Achievement examples 2: I play football for the South East London Kent Youth League. I have to attend practice sessions regularly and play competitive games most Saturdays. I need to be reliable and work as part of a team to play a strong game and we’ve won 8 games this season. I moved to England 2 years ago and didn’t speak much English. Through working hard and using my available resources at home and at school I am now taking my GCSEs and expected to get 5 A-C including a B in English. Although my mother tongue is Polish, I am now also fluent in English. I am part of the ‘Student Voice’ which involves looking over school policies, taking part in discussions and negotiating. I used to be a bit nervous about putting my ideas forward and public speaking but being a part of the student voice has helped develop my confidence and communication skills. Your personal statement: 3-6 sentences about your experiences and what you have to offer:
