The Problem vs Heterogeneity Commonality

Large scale systems can be built by the run-time integration of heterogeneous systems Agent-Based System Concepts facilitate this integration Legacy systems can be “agentized” to provide external access and interoperability A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A The CoABS Program has been predicated on proving these hypotheses! Is Proving ! The CoABS Interoperability Hypotheses

The Working Solution Provide dynamic discovery, and connection, of military systems, thus enhancing operations (planning, command, execution, combat support) and response to changing operations by: establishing a framework for integrating diverse agent-based and legacy systems

Program Structure CoABS grid allows heterogeneous agent and legacy systems to:  Register themselves  Advertise their capabilities & needs  Find available resources  Communicate among themselves  Form task-based teams  Encrypt conversations CoABS technologies: developing new and novel approaches  Mixed initiative control  Agent coordination & control  Agent infrastructure / automatic creation & discovery  Mobile agents  Domain research (adversarial & uncertainty)

CoABS Feasibility demos Graduation Exercise  COAX : Coalition Operations Demo – stressing scenario October 2002 Deliverables – end 2002  Working Grid with automatic wrapping  Tool Kit for user-easy agent creation  Capability to support 1,000 of agents

NEXT STEPS Tight Little Workshop – Jim Hendler Insitutionalize The Grid Effect successful transitions
